  9. Wouldn't it be nice to  have  your computer dictate out your
  10. documents to you in a  clear, understandable voice? Wouldn't
  11. it be nice to have "readme"  files  read  to you by your ST?
  12. But, unfortunately this isn't possible on your ST is it? All
  13. the  speech  synthesis  programs  are   so  poor  you  can't
  14. understand them, aren't they?

  16. Well, all has changed. Smooth  Talker  is  here - the speech
  17. synthesizer  with  a  difference!  This  one  is  clear  and
  18. understandable, unlike most.
  19.  
  20. All you need to do if you  want  to have your files read, is
  21. save them in ASCII form,  load  up  Smooth Talker, load them
  22. into Smooth Talker, and click on  SPEAK. Then, you will hear
  23. your documents spoken  to  you,  word  by  word, clearly and
  24. understandably, and even  with  expression.  For example, at
  25. full  stops,  the   computer   lowers   the  voice.  Between
  26. paragraphs, there are gaps. If you  place a question mark at
  27. the end of a sentence,  the  computer  will raise the voice.
  28. Brilliant. But is that it? No way! Smooth Talker can do many
  29. other things....

  31. Firstly, you can alter all  the  settings  of the voice, and
  32. then save them. You can  speed  up  or  slow down the voice,
  33. change the pitch to  make  it  into  a  female, or lower the
  34. pitch to turn it into  a  male.  Volume  can be increased as
  35. well, and the tone can be changed from harsh to soft. That's
  36. just the basic things Smooth Talker can do.

  38. When you load up the  program,  it is presented very slickly
  39. in a window with a custom  made  font of its own. Everything
  40. looks very professional - text can  even be edited and saved
  41. by Smooth Talker. It is  definitely king of speech synthesis
  42. programs, and makes the Amiga's Speech ROM look very feeble.
  43. If you want to sit  back  and  let  your computer read you a
  44. bedtime story, this is for you!
